Land Rover Cape Town – Proud vehicle sponsor to Jan Braai and the 2016 National Braai Tour
What is National Braai Day? Just like the Irish have St Patrick’s Day and the French have Bastille Day, we as South Africans have National Braai Day. A day all South Africans are encouraged to get in touch with who we are as a nation, a day we can all put our differences aside and unite around a fire to celebrate how far we have come together as a country.
The 2016 National Braai Tour kicked off in Cape Town, with teams taking a road trip across our beautiful country, enjoying the local sights and a South African passion for grilling meat over an open flame. This initiative, which is sponsored by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, is aimed at encouraging national unity through the celebration of a shared food culture.
Jan Braai, the man behind the tour and the National Braai day initiative said it the best “We want people to come together, sit around a fire, share their stories, learn about each other and South Africa, and have a good time while doing it.”
Jan and his team along with 2000 bags of wood and 300 packs of firelights took on the tour one braai at a time, traveling around the country in style in none other than the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Land Rover Cape Town proudly sponsored this vehicle to the Jan Braai team which stopped off at various places between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth over a period of 7 days. As they adventured through our beautiful country they united around fires, celebrating our South African heritage and spread the gees wherever they went.
Land Rover Cape Town were extremely proud to be part of this initiative as we to come from a proud heritage. From day one our vehicles have helped map the world, discovering territories no one knew existed. Not only was this an exciting adventure but it also celebrates one of South Africa’s oldest traditions – Braaing. A braai in South Africa is more than just cooking food, it is a central point of unity and tradition for all South Africans.
